Community survey in Lagos held
Community surveys were conducted in Lagos in November 2020 with participants from Bariga/Ilaje, Makoko, Adediji/Adele and Mushin/Idi Araba. These communities are selected due to their vulnerability to flash and seasonal floods, and are located close to the coasts and lagoons. Participants were very excited to be involved and have shown cooperation with the field research team. To most of them, the MECCA project represents a ray of hope that scientists and policy makers are working together to understand the impact of climate change from their local perspectives with the view of finding effective solutions. Similarly, institutions working on meteorology, climate change, environmental protection, urban planning, disaster risk management and emergency services at federal and state government levels have shown significant interest in collaboration with the MECCA project. We received letters of support from these institutions, and members of staff are currently participating in the online survey developed for eliciting perceptions of local scientists and policy makers.
