MECCA consists of researchers from the social (University of Bergen, Utrecht University) and natural sciences (Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research) and is coordinated by the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development, Utrecht University.
Local partners
In addition, MECCA is comprised of stakeholders, government officials and research organizations in East and West Africa.
In East Africa MECCA is connected to a network of over 25 stakeholder groups comprising policymakers (e.g. Lake Victoria Basin Commission and Lake Victoria Fisheries Organisation), NGOs (e.g. OSIENALA, Friends of Lake Victoria), communities and research institutions (TAFIRI, KMFRI and NaFIRRI).
In West Africa, we collaborate with a network of representatives from areas at high risk of flooding in Lagos, government officials (Lagos State Ministry of Environment), NGOs (Centre for Disaster Risk and Crisis Reduction – CDRCR) and research organisations (e.g. Nigerian Institute for Social and Economic Research – NISER; University of Lagos).
